Healthy food, formula, and nutrition support for pregnant women, new mothers, and young children.

WIC provides healthy foods, infant formula, breastfeeding support, and nutrition advice for pregnant and new mothers and young children. Benefits come on a WIC card for specific approved foods.

Good news for immigrant families: WIC does not require any immigration status, and under current rules it does not count against you as a "public charge".

## Who this is for

- Pregnant women, and mothers up to 6 months (or 1 year if breastfeeding) after birth
- Infants and children up to their 5th birthday
- Michigan households at or below 185% of the poverty level (Medicaid/SNAP makes you automatically eligible)
- Immigrants, no immigration status is required

## How we can help

- Help you find and book an appointment at a local WIC clinic
- Explain what income and documents to bring, in Bangla
- Interpret at the appointment so nothing is misunderstood
- Help you understand which foods your WIC card covers

## What to bring

- Proof of identity
- Proof of Michigan address
- Proof of income, or your Medicaid / SNAP card
- The child’s immunization record

## Questions

**Do I need papers or a green card for WIC?**

No. WIC does not ask about your immigration status, and under current rules it does not count against you as a "public charge".

**Is it cash?**

No. WIC gives specific healthy foods and formula on a WIC card, plus nutrition support. It does not reduce your SNAP.

**How do I apply?**

You attend a short appointment at a local WIC clinic. We help you book it and prepare.

**What if I earn too much to qualify?**

The WIC clinic decides that, not us, and it is worth asking even if you have been turned down for something else. WIC allows a higher income than most other programs, a family already on Medicaid or food assistance is normally treated as qualifying on income already, and the clinic looks at health and nutrition need as well, not at income alone. The limits are updated every year. Bring your papers and we will go through them with you and book the visit.
